How do we select guardians for your child?

Guardian families are selected by us in several ways.

This could be by personal recommendation from parents of other overseas children who have been happy with a guardian family in the past or schools often referring suitable guardians to us.

No matter how we locate suitable guardians, you can rest assured that we have one major objective - the safety and happiness of your child. Before a family can be entrusted with the care of an overseas student, Rosemary Mott personally ensures that the guardian family is going to be entirely suitable. To do this, guardians must answer a comprehensive list of questions to determine their suitability. This questionnaire covers all members of the family, including children, and takes into account both their domestic, social lives and background. We then thoroughly check the family’s background with:

1) The Police

2) Local Social Services

3) Central Government Departments responsible for Health and Education.

4) Personal visits to the guardian family home by Rosemsary Mott, the founder of Abacus Guardians, ensuring that accomodation, environment and well being are suitable for the overseas student.

Only when we are totally satisfied, having taken up references, is the family allowed to join our list of guardians who are entrusted with the care of overseas children.

Continuous support

Our responsibilities for your child’s welfare do not end when we have appointed a guardian family and introduced you to them. We maintain regular contact with the family, your child and you, the parents, to ensure that everyone is happy. We also remain in contact with your child’s house staff at school to make sure that your child is happy in this new environment.
